9 January 2020 : The implementation of a key milestone in one’s business plan defines and embodies the revelation of a dream come true.
For SkyEye Ltd’s CEO, Fa’aso’otauloa Sam Saili – the developers and creators of Samoa’s first e-commerce Maua app kickstarting the 2020 era could never have been better.
On Thursday this week and after months of lengthy negotiations, SkyEye Ltd officially declared the full integration of the Bluesky-powered M-TALA mobile wallet on SkyEye’s Maua app and platform.

For consumers, vendors and buyers – who are on Bluesky Samoa’s mobile network, it has meant that they can now utilise the Maua app to sell and shop on their mobile phone, without leaving the comfort of their home.
Navigating through the Maua app – which is packed with the features of an online directory and shopping tool on iOS (iPhone) and android mobile devices as well as desktop interface – is just as simple, even for first-time users.
Satish Sharma, Bluesky Samoa’s CEO explains that this “also means that Bluesky Samoa’s mobile users can now be part of the nation’s rapid etrade readiness”, that Digicel Samoa’s mobile users have been enjoying since mid-2019.

Savvy huh? Yes indeed!
“Today, SkyEye is pleased to partner with Bluesky to move closer to supporting the Government of Samoa’s objectives of improving efficiencies of business transactions and economic growth through digital transformation in Samoa. It is also one of the priorities of Maua to be inclusive. Today marks a significant step in realising these goals as Bluesky’s MTALA mobile wallet is now one of the methods that those who shop and buy on Maua can use can use to pay for their goods and services. And those who sell on Maua can receive payment through MTALA into their mobile wallets. As of today, Maua now covers 100% of every person that uses mobile services in Samoa with both (Digicel and Bluesky) mobile networks now on Maua. This ensures that no matter what mobile network you use, you can shop, pay or sell and receive payment when you sell or buy on Maua e-Commerce platform”, as stated by Faasootauloa Sam Saili.
SkyEye is grateful to Bluesky for helping to reach this milestone in the progressive development of Samoa’s ecommerce. Vendors and retailers of all sizes can now access a shopping and distribution channel with a wider reach and a more efficient sales process with lower overhead costs for their goods and services.
ALA ADDRESSING & LOCATION SYSTEM : A unique feature of Maua is that each seller and buyer business that utilises the app will be able to have accurate digital addresses through the SkyEye Ala addressing and locating system.
This enables sellers and vendor businesses to locate the buyers more efficiently without having to spend inordinate amounts of time on verbal explanations of locations from customers and buyers.
ECONOMICAL, SECURE AND SAFE DIGITAL MOBILE WALLETS : The use of mobile wallets encourages a greater number of users to save money as funds would be secure in their digital wallet.
FUNDS IN DIGITAL WALLETS CAN BE USED FOR PAYMENT OF UTILITY SERVICES : Feedback from some of the Maua vendors shows that having money in digital wallets has reduced spontaneous and unneccesary spending, and that funds have been utilised for essential utility service payments such as buying EPC cashpower, Samoa Water Authority water rates, vehicle registration and others.
TRACKING AND ASSESSMENT OF BUSINESS GROWTH : CEO, Faasoo also notes that the other reason why Maua advocates the use of digital payments is to help rural vendor capture information on their business activities. Such information is useful for their growth and may easily assist financial institutions and donor agencies in qualifying the level of assistance given to applications received from vendors. Furthermore, with the prolific use of mobile phones, it is envisaged that mobile wallets is the pathway to wider financial inclusion as there is still a significant number of vendors who do not hold a bank account.
JOINT PROMOTIONAL FEATURES : The private sector is Samoa is proud to contribute to supporting the Government of Samoa in achieving its national development objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals on digital transformation, financial inclusion and economic growth.
To celebrate this milestone, Bluesky Samoa and SkyEye Ltd are launching a joint promotion in the coming weeks to encourage clients to take advantage of this service offering.
