26 November 2019 : Samoa Met Service issued a statement for the general public on Monday relating to the first ever tropical cyclone (TC) to develop over the Pacific region this season (2019 – 2020).
A Tropical Depression (TD01) developed to the north of the Vanuatu islands on Sunday 24 November, 2.00am (SST – Samoa Standrad Time). Eighteen hours later at 8pm SST, the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC) at Nadi upgraded the TD01F system to a category 1 tropical cyclone and named it Tropical Cyclone (TC) Rita.
