Manu Samoa coach Vaeluagaomatagi Steve Jackson is under no illusions that the Pacific Nations Cup(PNC) is an important part of his team’s build up to the Rugby World Cup in Japan, and he is making sure all the opportunities are there for the players to step up and be counted.
Vaeluagaomatagi has made two changes to the PNC Squad of 31 who were in Apia last week.
The squad left for Fiji earlier this week for their last two PNC games.
Midfielder Kieron Fonotia comes in to replace Joe Sililoto and Jack Lam joins the team in place of loose forward Alamanda Motuga.
Manu Samoa Manager Va’aelua Aloi Alesana said both players had niggling injuries and need time to heal.
The squad, bouyant from their win over Tonga last weekend, hit Suva running into their first training run yesterday afternoon.
Equally bouyant, Manu Samoa coach Vaeluagaomatagi Steve Jackson said after the training run that he was happy with the attitude the players were showing.
He hinted there would be changes from the starting team who defeated Tonga at wet and muddy Apia Park last week. Vaeluagaomatagi said they are giving everyone the opportunity to vie for places in the Rugby World Cup squad
“We know there is lot’s of competition for places and we are giving them every opportunity to be selected,” he said.
He added that while they have systems and structures in place, they have told the players to “play with your Samoan flair” and create some exciting rugby.
The team to play USA this Saturday will be released Thursday morning, August 1, 2019.
