The Samoa Law Society this week issued an interim suspension of the practising Certificate for well known Samoa-based lawyer, Maiava Visekota Peteru.
In a media statement conveyed by Maiava herself, she has stated that “an interim suspension of my practising certificate has been issued by the Samoa Law Society this week. I have dedicated 35 years of my life to the practise of law in Samoa and I intend to follow Law Society processes with a view to remedy the interim suspension”.

Ia faamanuia le Atua I lo outou mamalu. Faafetai.”
The Samoa Law Society is yet to reveal why the order was made.
Maiava is a graduate of the University of Auckland, New Zealand LLM (Hons), in 1982 and is based in Samoa. She is a sole practice lawyer specialising in Property, Administrative Law, Family, Civil litigation and Criminal law. She was a Member of Parliament in the 1996 – 2001 session.
She became an Accredited Mediator in 2012 and is the current President of the Accredited Mediators Association of Samoa (AMSA).
