A woman is in hospital with severe injuries, including a severed finger, after she was allegedly abducted and beaten in the capital.
Stuff understands the woman arrived at Wellington Hospital’s emergency department last Tuesday, saying she had been abducted off the street and tortured. She had multiple broken bones, including broken ribs.
She remains in a ward where she is being guarded by security officers.
Police are investigating but offered few details in relation to the case, refusing to say how the woman got to the hospital, why she had been kidnapped, and where she had been held.
“Police received a report of an abduction in central Wellington last week,” a spokeswoman said.
“No arrests have been made at this stage, enquiries are ongoing.”
Police were unable to comment on the specifics of the investigation, the spokeswoman said.
Capital and Coast District Health Board refused to comment on the case, referring questions to police.
